This summer, the Niagara region will
commemorate the 250th anniversary of one of
the French & Indian War's most dramatic
episodes – the siege and capture of Fort
Niagara. A summer of activities is planned,
including the main attraction - a full scale
reenactment of the siege. This event will mark
the largest battle on the grounds of Old Fort
Niagara since the original siege in 1759.

The signature event of “Fighting for the
Fortress” is the Re-enactment of the Siege of
Fort Niagara, July 3-5, 2009, and will be the
largest such event ever held on the grounds of
Old Fort Niagara. The three-day event will
recreate the 1759 siege of Fort Niagara with

Artistic and Functional
Sun. Jan 25 to Sun. Jul 19 2009
Tuesday thru Saturday 11:00am-5:00pm; Sunday 1:00-5:00pm
The Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University presents an exciting new Folk Art exhibit that explores the world of domestic and occupational aprons by combining three exhibits into one. Part one of the exhibit features a diverse selection of 47 aprons from the personal collection of Mrs. Karen Anderson of Lynn Center, Illinois. Entitled Artistic and Functional: Aprons from the Karen Anderson Collection, these aprons demonstrate the ingenuity of American women who created aprons from recycled materials, such as dresses, curtains, blue jeans, and feed sacks. Part two of the exhibit, called Aprons from a Local Kitchen Drawer, is comprised of aprons collected by Catherine Hackenheimer (February 7, 1857—April 1, 1952), the grandmother of Castellani Art Museum volunteer Jean Hackenheimer. Part three of this exhibit, entitled Aprons at Work, includes a series of eight occupational apron portraits that show how people use aprons on the job. Lauren Tent of the CEPA Gallery took these photographs with the intention of highlighting the role that aprons play as protectors of people’s lives, not just their wardrobes. For more information on this exhibit and related programming please contact Curator of Folk Arts Claire Aubrey at (716) 286-8290. h/c access

Music with Mar. Classes
Tue. Apr 29 to Fri. Dec 31 2010
Tues. evenings 6:30pm, Wed. mornings 10am
What makes "Music with Mar." different?
The mission of the MwM program is to get more
parents involved with their children in positive
activities while using music to prepare them for
the future!

Music with Mar. is a class where a caregiver and
a child participate together in musical activities
which enhance the four main areas of
development-cognitive, social, motor and
language. A good music foundation , as well as
an all around good academic foundation, is laid
through the use of well thought out lyrics and
movements.

Music with Mar. classes:
*focus on the total development of the
child, and not on musicality
*children learn best through play and
activation of many senses
*provides an environment where the parent
and child are comfortable
*children can start to understand how to
behave in this setting.
