Call for Singers, Buffalo Choral Arts Society
Tue. Jan 5 to Sun. Dec 5
The Buffalo Choral Arts Society (BCAS), under
the direction of Marcia A. Giambrone, will hold
mid-year auditions for its 2009-2010 season:
Tuesday, January 5, 2010
beginning at 6PM
at Sweet Home High School,
Sweet Home Road, Amherst, New York.
Appointments are required and may be
scheduled by calling Nancy Cannizzaro at 847-
6930 (w) or 856-1357 (h). All singers who are
impassioned with the choral art are encouraged
to audition. The group is seeking singers for all
voice parts. Prospective auditioners are asked
to prepare a solo from any published source
which best exemplifies the singer’s range, tone
and interpretive qualities. Pitch-matching,
range exercises and sight reading will make up
the remainder of the audition.
BCAS was founded in 1966 by Robert F. Schulz,
and since then has steadily established itself as
one of Western New York’s premier choruses
and an integral part of Buffalo’s music-loving
community.

Comedy

Buffalo ComedySportz
Fri. Jul 9 to Sat. Dec 29
ComedySportz is improvisational comedy played as a sport! (If you've ever seen Whose Line Is It Anyway?, you've got the general idea.) Two teams of actors compete for the biggest laughs while a referee calls the fouls and gets suggestions from you, the audience.

Everything we do is improvised. We don't have scripts or pre-planned scenes. That's why a ComedySportz match wouldn't be possible without your suggestions. Just make sure your suggestions are clean, or the referee could call the "Brown Bag Foul" on you, and you'll end up wearing a paper bag over your head.

Downtown Heritage Walking Tour
Mon. Apr 5 to Sun. Sep 5
Take a stroll through Downtown St. Catharines,
home to some of the most historical buildings
in the region. Let our tour guides transport you
back to when it was all just beginning, before
two way traffic construction, before paved
roads, when St. Catharines was not much more

corner, the concept for the Welland Canal was
born, a concept that would forever change the
landscape and economy of our city. Find out
about how pigs aided in the discovery of
natural salt springs running through our
downtown, making it a world class health
destination for jet setters from all over North
America.

On the 5th of April - September at 7pm, join
us on a Heritage Walk of the Downtown Core
where these stories, and many more, which
detail how our city became what it is today, are
told in a 90 minute, easy paced walk through
the downtown core.

Peace Making
Wed. Sep 1 to Sat. Sep 11
Come hear George Mische present and
lead a discussion on what must be done
within our government, our corporations,
and our religious institutions to change
our support and collaboration with
violence in the world.

George Mische, a member of the
Catonsville 9 who burned draft files to
protest the Vietnam War on May 17,
1968, was a peace movement organizer
and a U.S. army veteran. He worked with
youth offenders for several years and
with Maryknoll Missionaries in Mexico
during 1961. He returned to the United
States in 1964 because he disagreed with
U.S. foreign policy in Latin America.

Like several of the other Catonsville Nine
members, Mische was motivated by what
he had experienced abroad. After the
Catonsville action, he remained active in
labor and peace organizing and in
Democratic party politics. He served for
several years on the St. Cloud,
Minnesota, City Council and currently
works in prison reform.

Participating in this discussion will be
representatives from the United Church of
Christ, the Disciples of Christ, the
Society of Friends, Pax Christi, the Latin
American Solidarity Commission, the
Stop the Violence Coalition of Buffalo and
the Sister Karen Klimczk Center. Also
present will be Ten Thousand Villages,
which provides a marketplace for
handicrafts made in over 113
cooperatives in Asia, Africa, and Latin
America

This event will end with a Memorial
Service for those who died in the 9-11
attacks
